October 2026

New Medicaid eligibility guidelines for specific non-citizen groups take effect.

3 key Medicaid enrollment and coverage updates

January 2027

Three major mandates go live:

  • Community engagement (work) requirements: Able-bodied adults, ages 19-64, must complete and report 80 hours each month of work, school, or volunteering activities to keep covered.
  • 6-month eligibility reviews: Adults enrolled in Adult Expansion Medicaid and Targeted Adult Medicaid (TAM) must now prove they still qualify every 6 months, instead of every 12 months.
  • Retroactive coverage shortened: The look-back window changes how far back an individual may be covered by Medicaid before their application date from 3 months down to 1 or 2 months, depending on the program.
